That Gutenberg . . . One Heck Of A Printer!
New York, February 16, 2008 . . . We were in the Main Reading Room at the New York Public Library, back in December, working on the documentary film about fiddle music and Weiser.
The Main Reading Room has to be one of my favorite places in the city, really in the entire country. What an inspirational space! Click the link to see a small pic.)
Displayed nearby, a pristine edition of the Gutenberg Bible. You know, 1450s AD, dawn of the typeset page, 'first substantial printed book in the West'? Totally amazing! Ink as dark and shiny as though it was printed this morning!
See the Gutenberg Bible at the NYPL until the end of August 2009 (no library card necessary).
Until then, how 'bout a fiddle contest or six? Here's a bunch, from now 'til the end of March, out West, down South, up in the Great White North and across the pond (again!).
